Thunder Island's Story
When Harry Perau was just twenty years old, he opened Thunder Island as a Go-Kart track. In 1987 he expanded by designing and building Jungle Golf, which is the largest 18-hole mini-golf course in New York State. "I redesigned the 19th hold three times before pouring any concrete," laughs Perau. In 1990 Perau purchased the sixty-foot Ferris Wheel, which is the lighted Ferris Wheel you see in the Tom Hank’s movie "BIG." At his wife Tammie's suggestion, Harry added the water slides to Thunder Island in 1997 and in 2001 they added a major water attraction, Thunder Rush, an extreme body slide that challenges the bravest water lovers! Thunder Island has partnered with many local businesses over the years to provide visitors with great food! The café is located near the Water Park and includes an air cooker to provide a healthier alternative to frying. Thunder Island includes The Oasis, a year-round catering facility and party house, that handles about fifty weddings a year as well as approximately 130 company events, and they cater about twelve offsite parties a year. A recently added beautiful new 1200-square-foot glass room can hold up to 100 people. It has its own air filtration system to accommodate smokers. Family owned and operated, Thunder Island is a wonderful, clean, safe environment for families to enjoy the summer weather. This year, the park is sales-tax free with the exception of events at The Oasis. The Perau family invites you to, "Come play!"
